About the Farm

Our Kennerley family have farmed and produced milk at Plum Tree Farm since the 40’s and have been in the surrounding area dairy farming for generations.

There are 3 generations living at Plum Tree Farm today.

Why our pasteurised milk tastes different to other milk

Our area is definitely cow grazing heaven, in the lush pastures of Eastern Cheshire the cows main diet is grazed grass.

On our farm our philosophy is simple, to have cows out in the fields eating fresh grass for most of the year.  Our cows are inside for the bad winter weather of November to the end of January, sometimes February too.

This means we get less litres per cow but the milk is higher in fat and protein and because of this it tastes great!!

When you open one of our glass bottles from the fridge, the milk has settled into a fabulous thick cream that sticks to the bottle just as it did when you were a child.

Depending where we are in the year, weather, and calving's all effect the creaminess of the milk.

No standardised, same every day processed milk here!

From Our Cows to You

Milking begins at 5.30am every morning. The milk passes from the milking machine into a bulk tank, the majority of it goes to Joseph Heler Cheese.

Your milk is taken from the tank, passed through the pasteuriser and cooled before being collected in a stainless steel churn.

The churn is sealed and driven to the vending machine at the end of the farm drive where it is connected to be dispensed.

The vending machine is basically a very large hi-tech fridge unit housed in a chalet.  Milk can be purchased by cash or card (contactless) or iPhone.  Glass bottles are available to purchase and re-use or bring your own bottle.

Protecting the Environment

Three years ago we thought it was time for a change, from farmer to consumer with only a fields length to travel!

No more food miles!

With glass bottles to refill we are also promoting environmentally friendly milk purchasing.   If you use 6 litres of milk a week, that's 156  plastic 2 litre containers thrown away each year.

Our 1 litre glass bottles look great, clean well and last

for ages, they are dishwasher safe and the label doesn't

come off!

Ready to use over and over again.

Reducing plastic waste.

We have tried to influence nature on our farm, to encourage wildlife, and of course as we are a pasture farm, our system compliments the environment.

Lots of good hedges, ponds and areas fenced off from the cows to encourage insects and small mammals,

which in turn feed an abundance of wild birds.
